I've been reading Natural Language Processing with Transformers for the past couple of weeks. It's been a great introduction to natural language processing, covering both theory and implementation. After reading a few chapters, I decided to create a small custom project—a Haitian Creole to English transformer. The goal was to translate Haitian Creole phrases into their English equivalents. While the model works well for simple sentences, the main value came from learning how to work with Hugging Face tokenizers and models. You can find the project in my GitHub.
